I obviously don't know how every Orthodox Jew in the world organizes his fridge or his sock drawer, for that matter, but having two separate fridges for meat and dairy has no basis in Jewish law and is for the most part very uncommon.

When I was growing up, my aunt and uncle (the only observant branch of my family tree at the time) had separate refrigerators for meat and dairy. Ultimately it was for the extra storage space, but they did keep them separate. I think the separation had more to do with staying organized, though I don't know that for sure. They lived across the country, so my experience with their kitchen was limited to a couple weeks for a handful of summers and that was it.

great site, nice work! About the refrigerators: I actually met one old Chabad Chassid in Yerushalyim that had 2 fridges, one for milk one for meat. He bought the extra milk fridge at about 93 years old! Of course, you are correct that normally (like in my house) the two fridges are for storage.
