Can't Touch (or See) This!

The other day as I was sitting in the kitchen after school with my two daughters and baby boy, I started thinking about how fortunate I am to have such wonderful kids. (In other words, I had gotten in my morning nap that day and no one had nagged me since breakfast.)

JITC on TV and on the Radio!

Hi there! I just wanted to remind you to set your DVR, Tivo (or VCR, if anyone's still got one of those) for my upcoming Friday, May 29th appearance on TLC's What Not To Wear at 9PM EST with Mayim Bialik. I can't guarantee how much of the show I'll be on, or whether or not what I say will be particularly profound (for some reason they wanted to control the direction of the interview!), but I'm at least hoping that the tiny sliver of my outfit that they caught on camera will look good. (Do you know how hard it is to shop for an outfit if you're going on a make-over show and you're supposed to be the one giving out the advice?!) Continue reading JITC on TV and on the Radio!

(In other words, television gave me super-human powers.) By my teenage years, my father, who had Ivy League aspirations for his daughters, would pass by the family room where my eyes would be glued to the screen and ask "Harvard Clown College, Allison?"

Sleepless in New Jersey

Check out my article on Aish.com which recounts the existential crisis I suffered from as a kid that eventually led me back to my traditional Jewish roots.

Mother = Garbage Can

Mothers are garbage cans. But don't try to read into that. I don't mean that mothers are treated like garbage, although sometimes we are: under-appreciated, under-respected, under-acknowledged. I also don't mean we look like garbage, although, let's face it ladies, sometimes we just don't feel like being all put together if we've been kept up all night by crying babies after we've been nagged all day by whining children.

You People Are All The Same, Right?

My downstairs neighbor is an older, self-described "not so religious" Jewish lady who lives with her cat and is surprisingly friendly to my family. This has led me to conclude that she is either hard of hearing or soft on judging. I can't imagine what it would be like to have lived below us for the last five years. Continue reading You People Are All The Same, Right?
