Miracle Walker

It has recently come to my attention that I'm a really dorky, no scratch that - the word dorky is itself laden with dorkiness - rather, I'm a really lame jaywalker. Now for the kids reading this at home, I don't make jaywalking a regular habit, but I am a New Yorker, so it's gotta be done every now and again.

Can my Orthodox neighbors be friends with me if I'm not Jewish?

Dear Jew in the City, I live across the street from an Orthodox Jewish for family for 32 years.  We have always gotten along and helped one another out.  Can they be friends to anyone other than their religion?     We also are getting a lot of Syrian Jewish in our town (by the Jersey Shore) and they seem different. They seem not to look or acknowledge any of us. There seems to be a lack of respect and rudeness about them. Can you explain.   Thanks, Hellen PS - I love the U tube videos Continue reading Can my Orthodox neighbors be friends with me if I'm not Jewish?

Launch Party!

Hey there loyal readers! I just wanted to welcome you to my brand new site. I have literally been trying to get this thing built for a year, so I'm thrilled that it's finally done. As you can see from the home page, there are some new features available on the site including: a Q&A section where you can email me your questions (which will be anonymously posted with my answers), a video page where I'll be launching five new videos over the coming months, and a Talk to Me page where you can request a telephone appointment with me to discuss any Jewish questions or issues that are on your mind. Do Dates

Although I have not been formally diagnosed, I think it would be safe to say that I'm in nesting mode. For anyone who's never nested nor observed nesting firsthand, it looks something like this: Woman with large, protruding belly begins to exhibit erratic behavior. Said woman runs around her home frantically attempting to lift, move, and organize things she ought not be touching. In some cases power tools are used (or rather misused).

My boyfriend is becoming Orthodox and it's scaring me, what should I do?

Hello, My name is Joanna and I am needing your insight or guidance to what I'm trying to understand. My boyfriend David, has just recently told me he is submerging himself in Orthodox Judaism, but not to the point of black hat and black coat as he puts it. Basically, this is a man who I've known since 6th grade here in the United States . . . I am not Jewish, however I enjoy learning about the religion. He was sent to Israel for two months to go through the Yeshiva program in Jerusalem and visit family. Two months then became ten months . . . . Our relationship is still very much growing thanks to e-mail, aim, and  skype. Going there he said he was only going to observe the religion not convert to the Orthodox ways, then a month ago he mentioned he was being pressured. Finally, last Saturday evening we got on a topic about when he gets home things will be different and there will be rules he will be observing more than what I have to.
